Welcome Baby Watson!

On Thursday morning at 3am on June 28th, Andrea's water broke. We were so excited to have a new baby cousin sometime that day or night! But Thursday came and went, and the baby still didn't come! Andrea had hoped to have the baby at the Birth Center, but after 24 hours, she had to check in at the hospital.

Around 8am on Friday, my mom and I went to the hospital to keep her company. Finally, TODAY would be the day! In our family, we go with the saying, "The more the merrier!" In the room, it was Andrea, Tyler, me, my mom, and Andrea's friend Sharon, who was serving as her doula for the birth.

Andrea labored without an epidural all day and all night. She was such a champ. By late Friday night, she hadn't made much progress, so she got an epidural and pitocin. When the pitocin started to cause some distress for the baby, the doctors decided to do a c-section.

When baby Pond was finally born, it was SATURDAY! What a long road for Andrea and Tyler. But the two of them were amazing. Being there for the labor experience was so special for me. It was humbling and amazing to watch Andrea go through the contractions and be so strong mentally and physically, hour after hour. She was unwavering in her determination to have an unmedicated birth, and even when the rest of us were getting discouraged, she just took some deep breaths and kept on going. Sharon was an amazing doula, and I was so grateful to have her there with us. I have an even greater love and respect for my little sis and her husband after getting to be a part of this experience.

Welcome to the world, Baby Watson! You have such an AWESOME Mommy and Daddy, and of course the best grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins anyone could ever wish for. The Cartwright fam is pretty dang awesome, and we're glad you're a part of it!
